This apartment finds itself nestled in the quaint lanes of Khar, cozied amidst surprising patches of greenery. Fondly referred to as the bachelor-pad for our young client in her 50’s, the home holds spaces interestingly curated and personalised for its single occupant. With the elimination of certain internal walls and a soft tactile material palette running commonly across the entire house, the aim was for the client to feel effortlessly unbound by an otherwise restricted square footage home, as she goes about her day.

One is welcomed into the home with an abundance of natural light pouring in from all sides. The passage - which usually has a dreaded presence in several compact Mumbai Homes - here gives a feeling of a larger space and draws one in due to the structural changes made to achieve an open-plan.

Oak wood makes an appearance across the furniture & cabinetry, lending its warmth and ease on the space. An intentional choice of varied beige upholstery makes the home unconfined in its visual boundaries. The dining and seating areas optimise every corner & makes the living room viable to host a decent number of guests when the client chooses to.

The additional ‘half’ room in this 2.5BHK, holds functions which bring the client back here during various courses of the day. From her evening tea-corner, to morning prayers in the mandir, to storage access - usability of the space further renders a feeling of bigness in this home.

The softness of the materials unfurls into the master bedroom and bathroom as well. The walls & ceiling are soaked in a sesame-seed colour, lending to the space the feeling of being cocooned along with the wood, sunlight & Ratan that find their place in this room.

The guest bedroom with its corner bed, an ocean-blue headboard, textured Spanish tiles, custom drapes & the tonality of wood, is in visual synergy with the rest of the home. From one end of the entrance, to the other ends of the private bedroom windows; the idea has been to make the home feel carved out of one rock.
