The home designed for a family of 4, is a manifestation of the desire for an elegant space that serves as a haven of peace and tranquility. By combining two adjacent apartments, the layout was reorganised to give the clients a home with lavishly sized rooms, personalised walk in wardrobe areas, a spacious yet cohesive kitchen and utility area and an expansive yet cozy living room that serves as an ideal spot for the family to spend time together.
The inspiration for this project comes from the concept of “Wabi-sabi” which literally means to embrace beauty in its natural form. This entrance foyer is a reflection of this concept where a trio of wooden tones can be seen in harmony with one another, housing important storage & seating while embracing a raw natural aesthetic.
The living room is a flowing & organic space where abundant natural light and the textured walls serve as a peaceful backdrop for everyday activities. The presence of Ash black Oakwood, a monolithic marble dining table & coffee bar rings true with honouring materials in their natural form.
The desired fluidity continues in the bedrooms - the language of the furniture pieces as well as the layout of the bedrooms prioritises the rhythm the clients craved for in their daily life.
Case in point being the room with an unconventional ensuite for the younger daughter where the passage housing the dressing unit opens up the bedroom into a dedicated walk-inn and shower area. Falling back on a tactile material palette with White onyx, fabric shutters and an uninterrupted wooden flooring holds the space as one.
The second daughter’s bedroom with an arched backdrop, organic forms and whimsical elements of the abstract mirror and dressing unit create a space that is calm yet playful.
The softness of the home continues into the master suite, with restraint. With choices made honouring the age and comfort desired by the Parents inhabiting the space. Fluted Michelangelo marble, a long striped headboard, a walk-inn with ample circulation space showcase the elegance and functional output in this bedroom.
The intent to exploit tactile qualities of materials such as natural stone, textured paint, micro-concrete, rattan, open grained wood and metal remains at the forefront of the design of this home. At the same time which led to creating a space of solace amidst the bustling urban lifestyle of the family.
